Apple devices get wireless charging [WiTricity]

Apple joins hands with WiTricity, wireless charging research from MIT. WiTricity is working to make wireless electricity technology that will operate safely and efficiently over distances ranging from centimeters to several meters and will deliver power ranging from mill watts to kilowatts. This electric power is safe for people and animals

 

WiTricity uses a phenomena called  “resonant magnetic coupling” , transfers energy from source to destination without connecting them other. WiTricity technology uses the basics of electricity and magnetism to charge your devices wirelessly

Magnetic coupling occurs when two objects exchange energy through their varying or oscillating magnetic fields. Resonant coupling occurs when the natural frequencies of the two objects are approximately the same. In this way, electric energy can be transferred from a power source to a powered device. magnetic coupling does not require any physical contact between the object generating the energy and the object receiving or capturing that energy

This technology provide wireless charging and battery free direct powering of devices when used within the range of the energy source. Included with the kit are resonating repeater pads which allow energy “hopping” and further increase the range of wireless energy transfer
